about

The 1989 release of "Signals," performed by the long since defunct band, Groundwork. "Signals" is still part of the Red Heaven set from time to time, but even a casual listen to the two versions will make it obvious: It was a very different song back then.

lyrics

The pulsating murmur of voices
At first too low for us to hear
A gradually gathering signal
One drumbeat every thousand years

A collecting unconscious disturbance
A sonic storm rolls over us
Atmospheric vibrations in tune
With the spiritual motion within us

Beneath the great ocean of darkness
A strange fish stirs in the sediment
The signal, compelling in nature
So very compelling in nature

The world is sending out signals tonight
Hold your breath and you might hear the pulse
Of a thousand speaking voices
And you wont hear anything louder in your life
And you wont hear anything more wonderful tonight

Red Heaven’s Joel Tamas (guitar and voice), Trevor Lubin (guitar), Jake Ferrera (drums), Cyrus Tearlach Robertson Orkish (bass), and Allison Bruneau (voice). Someone once told me the band sounds like umami tastes. ... more
